Internal Military?

This must have been what Radio ERA was referring to: Maidan - News - Donetsk General To Head Kyiv Internal Military?:

According to information sources in 'Ostrov', an urgent IM meeting was held last night in Kyiv, to which the former chief of internal military forces in Donetsk, General Vorobyov, was invited.

At the same time, according to MP Yuriy Pavlenko, a meeting of commanders of internal military forces and Kyiv Special Police Units is supposed to be held on Friday. The creation of a Kyiv territorial command center, to be headed by Donetsk's General Vorobyov, will be announced during this meeting. According to Yuri Pavlenko's comment for the 'Glavred' Internet portal, the forming of this command center is proceeding without the permission or knowledge of the Verkhovna Rada (parliament) of Ukraine, and the respective Verkhovna Rada committee is unaware of these developments.

Pavlenko summarizes all of this as an 'illegal police coup in Kyiv'. According to the MP, 'there are no guarantees that tomorrow's head of TC won't replace unit commanders with Donetsk people to completely control situation in Kyiv.' Pavlenko believes that 'armed people commanded by a certain political party represent a certain danger, since we don't know what kind of orders General Vorobyov will be giving.' According to the MP's information, the order to urgently create the territorial command center in Kyiv was given to Interior Minister Bilokon by Victor Yanykovych. At the same time, during his stay in Donetsk on December 11, Yanukovych announced during a Ukraina Channel TV broadcast that 'it's not within my mandate to work with law-enforcement organs while I'm on leave.'

Additionally 'Ostrov' has discovered that a regional meeting of the Interior Affairs Administration was held today in Donetsk. The administration has refused to provide information about General Vorobyov, maintaining that "he is not a police general."

Pretty scarey stuff, Scott.

Yanukovych is apparently becoming rather desperate, and criminals are capable of doing anything to achieve their goals - in this case, he appears to envision an insane plan to foment some sort of armed counter-revolution in Kyiv.

He needs only one gunshot - one death - and a demented hope of creating civil war might be realized. Russian troops ride to the rescue, and the chances for a crushed opposition could be engineered.

Could such plan be in the works? Reason says that is highly unlikely, but Yanukovych isn’t known for his reasonableness - he’s known for being the opposite.

Thankfully, the people of the Orange Revolution know this far more certainly than I - as is demonstrated by the post on the Maidan website. They have their eyes and ears wide open, day and night. They have to. They KNOW what they’re dealing with.

But somehow, I don’t think Yanukovych realizes - even now, after all that has gone before - just what HE is dealing with. Obviously he still thinks the old criminal ways will succeed - but, I’m betting he’s in for a last major shock... those days are now gone.

Trouble brewing - Russian arms moved for useTHIS seems to be more of the same story, Scott.

This has to be the most telling story illustrating just how desperate Yanukovych really is. With this exposed in television media, he and his evil forces would seem to have little hope of bringing this murderous scheme to fruition. But...

I have to wonder - is the corrupt government yet under Kuchma’s control incapable, or unwilling, to move to derail such an armed assault on the people? I have to believe that Kuchma is going to be doing all he can to see that the plan comes to pass - despite the exposure of it in media. Will he, through false statements, appear to ‘take measures’ against it - while he actually moves to aid and assist this devilish plot?

I would bet on the latter, and hope that independent organizations will approach supportive military and police leadership to create realistic stop-gaps.

That this has taken place - there seems to be little doubt. What should be happening is that arrests should be underway now, not only of 'candidate' Yanukovych - but every leader involved with the procurement and transport of these weapons into Donetsk. The fact that there is no such move being called for, and none being made, reveals that lawless Ukraine government is still quite dangerous and unpredictable.
